Pursuit Race – 22nd September 2019

Four boats assembled in Short Reach on the early tide. Nerides 3 and Shearwater set off a little before 08.00 with a slight breeze to help them. About half an hour later Jeddo followed by Azurian set off with just about enough breeze to steer by and the tide giving about 1kt of SOG.

Once out in the river the breeze came up a little. When Jeddo passed Garison Point with Azurian hot the heels Shearwater and Nerides 3 were barely visible out near the Montgomery. Somehow both Jeddo and Azurian got to the Montgomery and Shearwater and Nerides had barely got away.

At that point the breeze came up and Jeddo had overhauled Shearwater by the Mid Cant and was chasing Nerides. Azurian had tried to take a more direct closer hauled route and the gap had opened up.

Jeddo and Nerides reached the Spile buoy at the same time with Jeddo managing to slip inside of Nerides on the turn. Jeddo gradually pulled away with Azurian catching and overtaking Nerides.

With the SW wind reaching 22kts the final slog down Stangate Creek was extremely hard work.
