Hi all, when checking my mooring last Friday I did all the normal bits that I could see right down to the sinker. Wear on the top riser chain under the buoy made me replace. What was a complete surprise was the state of the chain through the buoy that was not visible until removed. Picture shows 25 mm thick chin reduced to some 7 mm! If you haven’t already replaced your riser recently I would suggest the ‘belt and braces’ approach and put a pennant rope/chain from the visible chain underneath the buoy to your deck cleat. Generally I leave mine slackish to act in emergency.
