Another 43 miles crossed off and our first encounter with dolphins. We set off from a much quieter than we arrived on Sunday afternoon, Newton Ferrers and down the picturesque River Yealm. Once out on the open sea we set a course for Falmouth and soon had a Warship leaving Plymouth and turning and heading from us. The Royal Netherlands destroyer Du Ruyter altered course and passed inshore of us. We continued on and the strange looking RFA Proteus passed us. Then came the first siting of a small pod of dolphins heading the opposite way to us and ignoring us. A little later Nick on Daydream who was a little ahead of Foreness and Jeddo radioed to say he had seen more dolphins and they were heading our way. After watching a few breaking the water between the two boats and not managing to catch them on camera, I realised one was riding the bow wave of Jeddo. I grabbed my phone and camera and scrambled along the side deck to get closer. By the time I had the phone on camera mode it had gone. Nick was obviously more prepared and got 3 good shots. We continued on into Falmouth marina. Today is a lazy day. Daydream has already left as he needs a water pump belt that he can get from Mylor. Michael is using the laundry facilities. I’m just about to head off and meet Daydream for a sightseeing trip up the Fal before heading for Helford to anchor for the night. More pictures to follow when I can sort out the website media library that is jumbling up the uploaded pictures.
If you can get to st Anthony’s at the top of Gillan creek – truly idyllic – I’ll send link to you Dave – they have visitor deep water moorings
