Crew for Millie

Millie is a 16’6″ Beaufort Dinghy, I would substitute the word Dayboat for Dinghy as she’s a fair weight and very stable, but she sails without auxiliary power except for oars that are only really used in a flat calm. She’s spent her whole life at Lower Halstow and was given to me by Lou.

I’ve no intention of sailing her single handed, except possibly short hops downwind to pick up crew.

On Sunday she made her biggest trip so far, got within spitting distance of the Red Sands Towers, and got back safely. She acquitted herself well, and the occasion of getting her out meant I got a couple of small jobs done that I’d been putting off.

My current crew has to come around from Sheerness, and would probably rather be sailing one of his own boats, so I would love to find someone at the club that might like to come out with us instead. For the moment I’m happy to just follow the races but there’s no reason Millie couldn’t compete. Crew need to be happy to lean out, but we should be able to keep our feet dry. If your experience is greater than mine, I’m happy to play 1st mate. There is a Beaufort kept by a sailing school in the Scillies, and they rate her to carry 5, so you could bring a friend if you like.

I’ve got a new, larger sail for her, but I’m still using the old one for the time being.

You can always get a text to me on 07957587941,

Stephen
