The gale has abated, but it’s still pretty unpleasant up here. We went ashore this morning and explored Rona. It has a permanent population of 4. At the other end of the island are some holiday cottages that are unoccupied at the moment and the ruins of an old village. In the 1800s after the clearances in Raasay the population grew to over 400, but has dwindled to just two employees of the estates and their partners. After visiting the ruined village I followed the sign to Church Cave that was used as a religious site before a church was built, that is now a ruin.
Visiting the Church cave, probably wasn’t the most sensible activity I should have undertaken alone. It involved ascending a steep cliff path climbing over rocks and mud. It was well worth the effort though.
This afternoon I have been playing with a simple video editor and mad up compilation of picture from the last few days.
