This was a fairly uninteresting leg of the journey. We departed the very commercial harbour at Blyth with its huge Oil and Gas rig support ships. I was confused as to why we were approaching a square lighthouse, but when closer it became clear it was in fact shrouded in scaffold and white sheeting. No doubt retired from service and being renovated as a home.
We continued on passing Tynemouth with its ruined castle and priory on the headland overlooking the river entrance, then past Sunderland and on to Hartlepool. We had to lock in and entered the vast former Naval Dockyards that a huge marina occupies much of.
At the far end in the Naval Museum with the HMS Trincomalee, the last remaining warship built for the Royal Navy in India. We didnt visit the museum as we needed to lock out of the marina by 11.30 and with the museum opening at 10.00 we would have to stay another day. With Hartlepool being one of the more expensive marinas we decided to leave and head for Whitby.

Making good progress now down the East Coast. Witney is apparently a lovely place to be.
