We understand there has been some concerns expressed by members over two security incidents being reported in less than a week. The items missing from Lady Gillian was in fact a mis-understanding due to lack of communication between buyer and seller. The “missing” items were reported to the club, without the buyer checking with the seller if they were included.
Obviously the theft of the outboard is still a serious issue, but unfortunately outboard engines are a popular target for thieves, as they are relatively easy to remove and move on. We were informed by Border Force a few years ago that there was a steady flow of stolen outboards often seen at Dover heading for Eastern Europe. Border Force were powerless, as these outboards were leaving the country before they had been reported stolen. The location of the club makes it impossible to make it totally secure.
The committee is looking at improving the CCTV, but in your own interest, please remove anything from your boat that could be easily removed by the low life looking to make a quick profit.
Thanks
The Committee
