As promised, I have set up two Zoom meeting sessions for anyone that hasn’t used Zoom or is unsure, ahead of Friday’s AGM. Both are for Tuesday, but if you cant make the times shown or need additional help, let me know and I can try and assist.
If you haven’t used Zoom before, it is probably worth accessing their test page in advance of trying to connect. Join a Test Meeting – Zoom This will test your internet connection and allow you to adjust the settings of your device.
Click on Join. Zoom will probably get you to download an App. If not the screen will have a prompt “Don’t have Zoom Client installed? Download.” If using a Windows device follow the prompts to install it (you can use Zoom without it, but it makes using Zoom a lot easier). For Apple devices, you will need to go to the App Store to download Zoom, and Google Play for Android devices. If asked, give the App permission to use your audio and video devices.
When installed you will get a prompt to open Zoom meetings. Open it.
When Zoom opens, you then get the option to “Join with Video” or “Join without Video.” The choice is yours. I have been running the test as I type this and it has performed differently to the last time I tried it. Previously it gave me the option to test and adjust the levels of the microphone and speakers before opening a dummy meeting. This time it has gone directly to a dummy meeting. If it does that, you will see a symbol of a microphone on the screen with an arrow to expand a menu. on there is “Test speaker and Microphone.” Follow the prompts.
Hopefully this will get your device ready for joining a meeting.
To join a meeting, if you have the client or App installed, it should just open by clicking on the link in the invite. Otherwise you may need to go to zoom.com and then “Join a meeting.” You will then need to enter the Meeting id and Passcode shown in the invite.
In the invite, you will see several phone numbers. These can be used to join the meeting by phone as audio only, or if you do not have audio on your device you can listen and speak over the telephone. Dial the number and follow the prompts to enter the meeting id and passcode.
