A short sail of just 14.6 NM today from Millport to Rothesay. It would have been shorter, but we sailed virtually all of it and had to tack to get there. We set out from Millport cutting through between Greater and Little Cumbrae Islands. There wasn’t much to take photos of. Approaching Rothesay the wind strengthened and we motored the last little bit. Once the ferry departed we were given permission to enter the harbour. We made a mistake and didn’t contact the berthing supervisor in advance by telephone. We tried on Chl M as advised in the Almanac, but got no answer. We initially went into berths in the outer harbour, but the swell was bouncing the boats around. After being lectured by the berthing supervisor that it was essential to phone ahead in case they were full the bridge was raised and we were allowed through to the near empty inner harbour. There were tight turn and the strong wind made manoeuvring in and tying up very difficult. We both managed to make a right mess of getting in.
Rothesay which was obviously a holiday resort in the past is now looking a bit run down, but has an impressive castle.

Well Done to both of you, I’m impressed with your tenacity to keep going. I would need my own bed after about three nights.
Is Nick with you? I noticed you mention “both” of you in your report. I assumed this meant that Nick was on a different mission.
Keep going and I hope you are enjoying the adventure and thanks for your reports.
Hi Dave,
Nick has had a tooth abscess and has left his boat at Troon and gone home to get it sorted. He will hopefully rejoin us laters we wander around the Highlands and Islands.
