Notices to Mariners Week 33
1. FRANCE – North Coast – NM Blocks. Obstructions. Foul. Depths. – This notice reports a number of obstructions and one FOUL which covers 6 UKHO charts for the Dunkerque Waiting Area off the Ridens of Calais. The changes for 4 of the charts is dealt with by blocks, the remaining 2 charts by individual items. One block is illustrated here: Notices to Mariners The blocks can be downloaded via the usual button. All items are at over 20m so it is unlikely to hinder leisure craft.
1. LIMEHOUSE REACH – CANARY WHARF – PIER MAINTENANCE WORKS – Constructex will undertake maintenance works on Canary Wharf
2. River Crouch – Pinto Lighted Buoy, River Crouch – the Pinto Lighted Buoy in approximate position: 51° 37.081’N, 000° 52.609’E is unlit.
3. Peel Ports London Medway. – Publication of Hydrographic Information. – Peel Ports London Medway is now publishing it’s hydrographic survey information pertaining to the following areas:
Medway Approach Channel
River Medway Reaches – Saltpan Reach to Rochester
Chatham Lock Approaches
The survey charts are now visible on the Peel Ports website (London Medway – Marine Information – Hydrographic Information) using the link below and will be updated with the latest edition once new surveys are completed.

4. Sheerness Harbour – Berth – Drilling Rig Lay-up – The second rig “Borr Ran”will be arriving at Sheerness 30.07.2020 – Please note the amendment to the rigs’ final position and alignment. New iamges in the Local list in the above page quoted.
5. THE SWALE – FERRY REACH – KINGSFERRY BRIDGE – Reduction in service for leisure users. This notice is hereby cancelled: Network Rail have now restored mains power to the Kingsferry Bridge, lifting operations have returned to normal with no restrictions to leisure craft.
6. River Medway – Chatham Dock Bull Nose – Fixed Upper Lights – The upper fixed red and upper fixed green lights on the Bullnose at Chatham locks are temporarily extinguished. Until further notice only the lower red and green lights are visible, the fault has been reported and an update to this notice will be promulgated once all Bull Nose lights are restored to normal conditions. Further information may be obtained from Medway VTS on VHF Channel 74, call sign “Medway VTS” or telephone 0151 949 6148 or 0151 949 6650.
7. Port of Ramsgate – MAINTENANCE DREDGING CAMPAIGN – Mariners are advised that the dredger ‘Wyre Sand’ will be undertaking a maintenance dredging campaign within the Royal Harbour and Commercial Port from Wednesday 5th August for approximately 4 weeks. The dredger will be monitoring VHF Vessels are requested to pass at low speed.
8. Port of Sandwich – two notices – EA Works at Pillory Gate Wharf – Users of the river at this point are now informed of completion of the works. Notice No 10 is therefore cancelled. Fairway Buoy – the Sandwich Fairway Buoy having been repaired and overhauled, is returned to station. Mariners tempted to creep in on the early tide should be aware of wandering sandbanks in the vicinity.
9. Port of Wells – Dredging
10. Approaches to King’s Lynn – Amendments to Buoyage – due to changes in the profile of the approach channel the following amendments will take place on or about 30th July 2020:
a) No. 19 light buoy to be moved 200m x 200°(T) to 52° 51’.260N 00°21’.005E
b) No. 16 light buoy to be moved 220m x 200°(T) to 52° 51’.245N 00°21’.190E
c) No. 22 light buoy to be moved 15m x 080°(T) to 52° 50’.375N 00°21’.700E
Mariners are requested to give the buoying vessel “St Edmund” a wide berth and pass at minimum speed whilst works to move the buoys are being undertaken. For further information please contact King’s Lynn Harbour Radio on VHF 14
11. Blakeney Harbour entrance channel – Mariners entering Blakeney Harbour should be aware that a new sandbank is developing between Harbour Entrance buoys number 2 and 3. Vessels entering the harbour should proceed with caution between buoys 2 and 3, in order to clear any breaking shallow water to the South (see aerial photo below).
